In summer I took part in a community photo competition which rekindled my love of the art of photography. My love of photography started very young and I used to like using mum and dad’s cameras to snap shots. I got my very first camera when I was about 13, it was a konica point and shoot film camera and I used to love taking photos and getting them developed. Later at high school I studied photography as an elected subject along with painting to 7th form, my last year of high school.
Since then I have taken photos off and on due to not having spare money to spend on buying and developing film over the years. The rise of digital photography recently has allowed myself to take more photos as the cost of buying film and developing unnecessary pictures has made it more accessible. Digital photography also allows easier post processing than in the darkroom of years past, even though those years at high school in the darkroom possibly taught me a lot about light and how a camera and film actually works.
In the middle of summer I enter a sitepoint competition, wining best photo one day and then by entering everyday for the week was lucky to be drawn from a hat to take the grand-prize, a print copy of the Photography for the Web book(excerpt from the book), a sitepoint T-shirt and the chance to write an article on sitepoint.
